The licence
Gyre's application code is distributed under a custom, source-available licence. It is deliberately not an open-source licence: the licence text is the agreement that governs how the app may be used, and where this page summarises it, the licence itself is the authoritative text.
That licence covers the software, not the price. Gyre is a paid app — a one-time license key after a free trial — and the licence does not oblige us to give copies away.
Gyre is distributed in the hope that it will be useful, but WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY; without even the implied warranty of MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
Gyre is an independent product
Gyre is an independent reimplementation of the Orbit concept by Yuze Pan. It uses its own name, icon and brand, and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Yuze Pan or the Orbit project.
The original author retains his rights in the Orbit concept and its works, and this credit is Gyre's acknowledgment of where the idea came from.
Your Mac is yours
Gyre switches between the apps and windows already on your screen, and performs the hub actions you ask it for. It claims no ownership in anything on your screen, does not record what happens there, and does not send it anywhere. You are responsible for what ends up visible on a shared or recorded screen while the ring is open.
The licence you buy
Gyre is free to use for fourteen days. When the trial ends the ring stops opening until you activate a license key; nothing on your Mac is deleted, and the rest of the app keeps working so you can activate at your own pace.
A licence is bought once. It does not renew, and there is no subscription to cancel. A key activates on up to 3 Macs; deactivating a Mac frees its slot so you can move the licence to another machine.
Your order, payment, email delivery of the license key, and any refund request are handled by Dodo Payments, who is the merchant of record. Their terms and refund policy govern the transaction itself.
Use at your own risk
Gyre is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. It switches the focus of your Mac, so it is worth knowing your own shortcuts before you use it in front of an audience.
Gyre is source-available license, and the project — downloads, release notes and issues — is on GitHub.
